Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 @ Howey's On 71

My first night back at Howey's and folks were ready to sing (and party!).

I was a bit concerned that no one would be there since no advertising had gone out yet. Thankfully, my concerns were dispelled in short order.

My favorite singing couple in all of the Fox Valley, Shelley and Dan, suprised me by being one of the first in the door.

Shelley started with Carly Simon's "Anticipation" (I can't help but think of that catsup commercial when I hear that song). Other selections included; "Dirty Girl", "Blvd of Broken Dreams", "Heaven, Heartache, and Power of Love", "All Jacked Up", "I Want to Come Over", and "Down at the Twist and Shout". (See what happens when you get in early...sing a bunch!)

Dan sounded great on "Paper in Fire", "Glory Days", "Folsum Prison Blues", "Just What I Needed", "Midnight Special", and "Your Man". Hey Dan, you really made an impression on the owner! Great job!

A familiar face I haven't seen since the last time I hosted karaoke at Howey's, Jeff G, the resident rocker was in the house and ready for fun. He started off with Metallica's version of "Turn The Page", changing it up with "Ice Ice Baby" later on. Always a blast!

Mark S. sang "Policy of Truth" by Depeche Mode and Eric D. gave us a special rendition of "Friends in Low Places" (the "effin long version"). Thanks guys.

Lisa showed no signs of shyness as she came up for "One Way or Another", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Nothing Compares To You", and "Last Dance". Get down girl, go 'head, get down.

Sean rocked the joint with Rob Zombie's "Dragula". His other selections were "Best of You", "Mr. Brownstone", and Nickelback's "Rockstar". Powerful vocals Sean!

Val and Dana entertained with "Crazy Bitch" and "Jessie's Girl". Yeow!

Mike P performed "That's Life" like a real pro. He followed that up with "LA Woman" and "Only the Good Die Young". Awesome!

Jeff & Damon joined forces on "Used to Love Her", Carissa & Kyle gave us a duet on "Summer of '69", Michelle & Shana sang "Don't Stop Believin'" and Dan & Dana sang "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart". Way to go gang!

Not to be outdone, Dave and Brad were in rare form as they came up for "Love and Memories" and "Gangsta's Paradise". They invited their whole table to come up for "Bye Bye Bye". What a hoot!

A fun night and a great way to kick things off at Howey's!

I can hardly wait to see what the weeks ahead will hold for us. Whatever it is, you'll find it logged right here at the CarTunes Karaoke Web Log so stay tuned and...

Keep Smilin',

SG
